The serene and beautiful Requiem by Maurice Duruflé will be the major work for this mid-winter program. Written in memory of Duruflé’s father in 1948, it is one of the most tender settings of a Requiem.
Kantorei is pleased to support The Butterfly Program by donating a portion of the event’s proceeds to the organization. The Butterfly Program, sponsored by The Children’s Hospital and Porter Hospice of Centura Health at Home, provides comprehensive pediatric palliative care, serving families with children who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Please come prepared to honor a passed loved one during this portion of the concert by writing a name down on a paper butterfly provided at the church entrance. Or, when you buy your ticket online please let us know the name you would like to honor and we will prepare your butterfly in advance. The collected butterflies will be placed alongside the choir during the Requiem’s performance, providing a unique spiritual way for you to connect to this beautiful piece.
The concert’s first half will feature Benjamin Britten’s rousing Hymn To St. Cecilia.
