For the second time in its 13-year history, Kantorei performed for a National audience of choral conductors, musicians, and students at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Chicago. The conference is among the most prestigious of all performance opportunities available to American choirs.
Kantorei was selected in June, 2010 as the only choir from Colorado and one of only five community choirs in the country to appear at the National Convention, held March 9-12, 2011, in Chicago, IL. The selection was Kantorei’s second such invitation to the National Convention in its 13-year history, and was Artistic Director Richard Larson’s third performance at the National Conference, a rare achievement in choral conducting.
Kantorei received standing ovations from the audiences at both Chicago performances, and was applauded off the stage after its performance at Orchestra Hall. Following the concerts, Kantorei received several comments praising the performances. “The entire program was a virtuosic feat and you and your singers are to be highly commended,” said Catherine Davies, Director of Operations for Chorus America.
In the video below, Larson and several Kantorei members describe the honor of being selected for the National Conference and discuss their favorite performance pieces. Thank you for your support of Kantorei in this incredible opportunity for our choir!
