Echoes: Chant & Beyond

For centuries, Chant has been a central compositional style used for meditation and spiritual gatherings. In March, 2015, Kantorei explored this age-old art form with early renditions of solo line melodies as well as newer compositions that are chant-based or chant-infused. Featured works included chants by Hildegaard von Bingen; Josquin Des Prez’s chant-based Mass, “Missa Pange Lingua;” British mystic composer John Tavener’s setting of a Jewish matrimonial ceremony, “The Village Wedding;” “Four Motets on Gregorian Chants” by Maurice Duruflé and new works by Eric Whitacre and James Whitbourn.
